News from the FVE Board

In its first meeting after the elections, the FVE Board of Directors re-appointed Stephen Ware (UK) as FVE treasurer. Christophe Buhot (FR) was appointed as the vice-president to act on behalf of the president in his absence.  During the meeting, which took place on 9 and 10 July in Leuven/Belgium, specific portfolios were allocated to each of the Board members.

The Board decided to start a procedure to develop the Federation’s strategy for the years 2011 – 2015. The procedure will include regional meetings early 2010 and it is hoped that the new strategy will be ready before the General Assembly of May 2010.

The Board discussed the EU Commission’s proposal on the non-commercial movement of pet animals. A position paper will be drafted in the coming weeks.
Another topic that was discussed was the quality of veterinary education, including levels of specialization. Further meetings with EAEVE and EBVS are planned.
The working group on animal cloning, which delivered its report in the last GA, was put on a “stand by position”, which means that they can be asked for further opinions as soon as this will be indicated.
