Fewer animals to be used in research

The revised directive 86/609/EEC on protecting laboratory animals is designed to
boost welfare without hindering research and will come into effect in
two years.

During the debate held earlier today, Elisabeth Jeggle (EPP, DE), who steered the legislation through Parliament, said the compromise reached was a good deal and told MEPs "if you want animals to be protected, please give it your support". Read more
