FVE Working Group on Transport asks for consistent implementation and enforcement of Transport Regulation

During the telephone conference of the FVE transport working group held last 26 February, participants agreed that the new animal transport regulation has not improved the welfare of animals during transport, especially during long distance transport, mainly because these transports were not done according to the Regulation.

The group met in order to draft a document to be put forward to the commission in order to state the shortcomings of the Transport Regulation since it came into force. The FVE is convinced that there is a greater need for consistent implementation and enforcement of the basic rules to protect the welfare of animals in transit. For this the veterinary profession needs the tools to protect the welfare of transported animals in whichever Members State where this occurs.
