Proposal to change rules non-commercial movement of pet animals


The
European Commission published a proposal governing non-commercial movement of pet
animals, which will replace Regulation 998/2003.


The
proposal introduces delegated and implementing acts and specifies the end of
the eight-year transitional period for identification. In addition, it also
introduces a new definition for non-commercial movement, removing the limit on
5 animals, and allows a derogation for movement of pets without rabies
vaccination between certain member states. FVE regrets the proposal does not
aim to include registration, as identification without registration is of
little value.
