FVE is the European representative body for the veterinary profession in Europe

We are the umbrella body for veterinary associations from 39 European Countries (45 members and 1 observer). We represent , through our Sections, veterinarians working in different fields of the profession, such as veterinary practitioners (UEVP), state officers (EASVO), food safety and veterinary public health (UEVH) and veterinarians working in education, research and industry (EVERI).

We are a not-for-profit organisation, our income which comes mostly from membership fees is all reinvested to serve the veterinary profession.

What we do

We speak for all our members at the highest level

We represent the views of our members on animal health and welfare and veterinary policy issues to the European Institutions (European Commission, European Parliament and Council) and to wider stakeholders in Europe and Internationally.

We champion the veterinary profession

We ensure the veterinary voice is heard through European media and provide information to the general public about the role of veterinary surgeons.

We formulate policy through our members' expertise

We develop evidence-based policy positions on key issues of concern to the veterinary profession and ensure every member can have their say.

Veterinarians play a vital part in society. FVE aims to make sure veterinarians can do their jobs well – for everyone’s benefit.
FVE aims to:

  • Bring veterinarians together and give them a strong, united voice they can use to influence the issues that matter.
  • Promote animal health, animal welfare, public health and the environment.
  • Promote the importance of the veterinary profession, making sure people understand its huge contribution to society.
  • Look after the interests of Europe’s veterinarians, making sure they are respected.
  • Enhance the quality of veterinary education, including life-long learning, to make sure veterinarians are equipped to do the best job possible.

Our mission

The European veterinary profession, embodied by FVE, strives to enhance animal health, animal welfare, public health and the protection of the environment by promoting the veterinary profession.

Together with its members, FVE aims to support veterinarians in delivering their professional responsibilities to the best possible standard, and that this expertise is recognised and valued by society. FVE strategy 2021-2025

Our leadership

FVE is governed by a Board of 5 persons elected by the FVE members. The Board is elected for two years and can be re-elected once. The Board sets the strategic direction and is responsible for corporate and financial governance.

Twice yearly representatives of FVE members meet in the General Assembly. The General Assembly defines FVE policy, approves the finances, elects the FVE Board and controls Board activities.

FVE has a Permanent Office in Brussels. The Permanent office supervises the day-to-day activities of the FVE and reports to the FVE Board.
