In cooperation with the Finnish Food Authority, the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare announced in a press release the rollout of the HPAI vaccination of humans. Based on their recommendation, target groups of avian influenza vaccination who are at increased risk, including veterinarians, will be vaccinated first. Finland participated in the EU’s joint procurement of the avian influenza vaccine and has obtained 20,000 doses of the vaccine for those at risk of infection. This amount is sufficient for vaccinating 10,000 people with two doses. The vaccine is the only preventive zoonotic avian influenza vaccine currently authorized in the EU. Fifteen EU and EEA Member States are participating in this voluntary procurement with the company Seqirus UK Ltd. The contract allows each participating country to order vaccines depending on national needs.
