MSD Animal Health – FVE call for applications


MSD Animal Health and FVE commit to veterinary students by providing  68 scholarships of 2.500 USD$ to veterinary students (enrolled in the 3rd to 4th and 5th year (as for October 2023) from the European region, studying veterinary medicine in a veterinary establishment member of the European Association of Establishments for Veterinary Education – EAEVE with the status of approval, conditionally or pending accreditation or accredited.

The scholarship aims to enhance the academic experience and progress by taking into account merit, financial need and geographical diversity.

Eligibility Requirements

  1. Not be recipients of any previous MSD/FVE scholarship;
  2. 3rd to 4th and 5th-year veterinary students;
  3. Currently enrolled and in good standing at a recognized veterinary establishment in their country
    (a veterinary establishment member of the European Association of Establishments for Veterinary Education – EAEVE – as of October 2023) with the status of approved-accredited-conditionally/pending accreditation;
  4. Citizen of a European country.

Review, evaluation and selection
The review and selection process will be coordinated by the FVE and will involve members of the FVE/IVSA Review Committee.

Important Note: No representative from a veterinary school ever evaluates a student from his/her school. Also, no member that is either employed or contracted to work for MSD Animal Health will participate in the selection of any award winners.

The FVE Review Committee will score each application based on the specific scoring rubric, taking into consideration:

  • Support letters from Dean and a Professor from the faculty (Box N. 2 – max 10 points);
  • Evidence of financial support (Box N. 4 – max. 10 points)
  • Motivation (Box N. 5 a,b,c – max. 20 points) based on the responses to the following questions:

    1. Statement of motivation on why the applicant should be eligible for the MSD/FVE scholarship with personal examples of contribution to the college, community, animals, etc. (max. 150 words – max. 5 points);
    2. Brief description of what the applicant would do weith the money received (up to 150 words – max. 5 points).
    3. Short text on what the applicant believes will be the biggest challenges and opportunities practicing the veterinary profession in the next 10 years (up to 200 words – max. 10 points)

Timeline

  • Application deadline – 30 October 2023
  • Selection process – 1st November 2023 – 1st December 2023
  • Student and School notification – 10 January 2024
  • Public Announcement and Presentation – 29 January 2024
  • Check Disbursement – February 2024

Deliverables

To accommodate and support MSD Animal Health and its veterinary student scholarship efforts, MSD Animal Health has allocated $ 30,000 (thirty thousand dollars) for administrative services fees to be paid to FVE, which FVE will:

  • Handle all aspects of correspondence with the colleges of veterinary medicine and the veterinary students in Europe, according to the timeline.
  • Collect and process all incoming applications
  • Coordinate and facilitate all aspects of reviewing and selection including the use of qualified and credible scholarship reviewers. All aspects of scholarship awarding, recognition, and follow-up will be provided by FVE.
  • Correctly and timely pay all grants to the selected students, FVE will provide separate accounting and reporting for this scholarship program.

Payments of the scholarship

All scholarship funds must flow through the FVE banking and accounting systems. FVE will directly distribute all scholarship awards to recipients.

FVE will ensure that accompanying award materials will include appropriate recognition and information to scholarship recipients related to the funding and support source.

FVE complies with the MSD Anti-Bribery and Corruption Policy adopted on the 3rd of June 2022.
