Holmes Veterinary, St Anthony's Veterinary Hospital is a small animal and equine veterinary hospital in Caherslee, Tralee.

We are an approved veterinary council of Ireland hospital and a UCD vet nurse training centre. Our hospital is open for first opinion and referral cases in internal medicine and surgery.

We are pleased to offer first opinion equine services.

Danny Holmes has special interests in cardio respiratory medicine and dentistry. He is also on the Veterinary Ireland Companion Animal Society committee, and works with a large dog and equine rescue AHAR Ireland.

Danny's wife Karrie also works in the surgery as an equine consultant and helping to produce young horses with Danny.

Job Description

Expanding practice looking for a experienced veterinarian and an intern

The practice has 2 centres.
There is a companion animal hospital premises in Tralee, recently refurbished to an exceptional standard.
The second practice is 20 minutes apart near Castleisland and is a newly built companion animal clinic with a riding centre and a veterinary area for fertility work and admissions for minor surgeries and treatments.

Equipment levels are good with multiple ultrasound machines, in-house bloods, DR equine and CR companion animal Xray. Endoscopes, video otoscope, separate cat and dog wards.

Might suit 2 friends or a couple.

The work would be mainly companion animals. We do a large amount of rescue work so good opportunities for cementing skills and confidence in routine surgeries and dental work. Occasional intensive care infectious disease outbreaks coped within an isolation facility.

Familiarity with the EU Pet Passport system essential. We employ Fear-Free and Cat-friendly principles but are not a certified clinic You will also have the opportunity to assist and learn first opinion equine services. Clients have a range of riding ponies and horses, eventing and showjumping, and racing and breeding mares.

Salaries range from €2500 p/m starting commensurate with experience for the vet with a vehicle and from €1000 p/m intern but must be fully qualified. Assistance will be given to source accommodation. Insurance will be paid and registration fees. Year-long contract with review process for renewal.
