On 9 and 10 December Maurizio Ferri, a member of the FVE working group on food safety and sustainability, and Carlos Gonzalo Das Neves from the Norwegian Veterinary Institute gave an important presentation on the crucial role of the wildlife-livestock-human interface plays in the rising of potential emerging risks. At such an interface, many pathogen spillover events usually occur but many remain unobserved or unreported. They highlighted how surveillance is not an optional extra but it is critical for pandemic preparedness and how it is crucial to include in this work veterinarians and epidemiologists.
