On 2 April, FVE, together with FECAVA and the Ghent University Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, held a joint webinar on the challenges and opportunities surrounding the prevention of Feline Infectious Peritonitis (FIP) and the development of related guidelines, bringing together 200 participants.

FVE Executive Director Nancy de Briyne welcomed participants, emphasizing the importance of both effective treatment options and preventive strategies.

  • Keynote speaker Demetris Epaminondas delivered a presentation on the epidemiological situation in Europe, highlighting preliminary results from Greece as well as ongoing monitoring efforts in Cyprus.
  • Keynote speaker and PhD student Luna Vanden Buijs presented her project, Background on Prevention Strategies, focusing on measures to limit viral spread and the introduction of a coronavirus-free certification programme for catteries.
  • The panel discussion was moderated by FECAVA President Ann Criel and featured an expert panel including Hans Nauwynck (Ghent University, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine), Eric Van Tilburgh (Animal Welfare Department, Government of Flanders), Diane Addie (University of Glasgow Veterinary School), Demetris Epaminondas (Cyprus Veterinary Council), Mrs Clavel (Manager of Chatterie des Tips Levant and member of PRODAF, France), and Luna Vanden Buijs.

Only through collaboration and shared knowledge can we successfully eradicate Feline Infectious Peritonitis (FIP) and raise awareness across the veterinary community and beyond.
